The very interesting Byzantine Museum of Corfu is housed at one of the most important ecclesiastical monuments of the island.
The church is dedicated to the Holy Virgin “Our Lady of Antivouniotissa” and constitutes one of the oldest and wealthiest ecclesiastical monuments in Corfu. The Church of Panagia Antivouniotissa possesses excellent characteristics of ecclesiastical art. It is believed that it was erected in the 15th century.
At the Museum’s showcases approximately ninety icons are exhibited, most of which belong to the church itself. The rest, exhibited at the narthex, come from the old Byzantine collection of the Museum of Asian Art.
