Kavala, one of the most beautiful and picturesque cities of Greece thanks to its unique style, its privileged location, its long history but also its friendly atmosphere, is a favorite tourist and pilgrimage destination. It is the first city that Apostle Paul visited and this is why its older name was Christoupolis. In memory of this visit a modern tribune was created at the point where Apostle Paul got off, behind the church of Agios Nikolaos, near the port of the city.
Inspired by the important presence of Apostle Paul in the area is the monumental pilgrimage of Agia Lydia of Thyatira, the first Greek and European woman to be converted to Christianity.
