Paul & Alexandra Canellopoulos Museum

The museum was founded in 1976, after the donation of the private collection of Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos to the Greek state. It is housed at a neo-classical mansion of the 19th century, at the district of Plaka, under the Acropolis, and in the last years it has been expanded and modernized.

Its collections include items and works of art from the prehistoric period to the modern times, which indicate the continuation of the Greek civilization through the centuries. Among them stands out the interesting collection of Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons, with the works of well-known artists, while impressive is the preservation of the ruins of a medieval residence among the exhibits of a new wing.
