The War Museum of Athens is the largest and most important in Greece. It was inaugurated in 1975; it is supervised by the Ministry of National Defense and is housed at a modern building, at the intersection of Vassilissis Sophias and Rizari streets, right next to the Byzantine and Christian Museum.

Its rich collections are exhibited in four floors and at the outdoors area around the building, and cover all the Greek war history from prehistoric times to modern years. Among its impressive exhibits there are weapons, relics, maps, photographs, engravings, works of art, military uniforms, war flags, machine guns, War Navy weaponry and aircrafts of the Hellenic Air Force.
